Email received from; Canal & River Trust

- Was British Waterways.

Dear Angler

As an angler, or representative of an angling club, who enjoys the canals and rivers, we thought you should be one of the first people to hear about the exciting changes set to happen in the year ahead.

You might know already, that in April 2012, British Waterways is transforming. The organisation is set to become a new, national charity to care for a 2,000-mile network of canals and rivers in England and Wales.

This week the transition trustees of the new charity have announced that it will be called the Canal & River Trust (or Glandŵr Cymru in Wales) and have unveiled its new symbol that you can see on this email.

Multi-award winning design agency Pentagram provided free design consultancy to develop the new national charity’s name, symbol and imagery.

Tony Hales, chairman of the transition trustees, said:  “Our canals and rivers have been part of the fabric of the country’s landscape for 250 years and putting them in trust for the nation for the future is the start of a new chapter in the renaissance of the waterways. People have told us that the waterways are important to them as a local haven, for themselves and for nature. Stepping onto a towpath is like entering a different world, where the stress of daily life can be escaped. The Canal & River Trust and our new symbol represent what it is about our waterways that means so much to so many people.”

You can find out more about the new name and symbol here. And if you would like to find out more about what’s happening behind the scenes to prepare for the launch of the Canal & River Trust you can register for updates here.

As an angler we know that you often act as the eyes and ears of the waterways, thank you for all your efforts helping to care for the canals and rivers, and the special environment they offer, your support is very much appreciated.

Please do send on this email to friends and family who you think would like to find out more about what’s happening to their local canal or river.
